FAQs

How Do i book an appointment?

My books currently remain open. All you need to do is fill out this booking request form with your information and I will email you back in a timely manner. There is a non-refundable $100 deposit required to book an appointment and the deposit goes toward the cost of the tattoo. With at least 24 hours notice you can reschedule your appointment without forfeiting the deposit. If your project requires multiple sessions, your deposit will roll over and be deducted from the cost of the final session.

How much will it cost?

My hourly rate for large-scale and custom work is $200/ hr. Some flash designs will be flat-rated and I often run deals on designs I am excited to tattoo. Follow me on Instagram to see new available designs and flash deals.

What type of payment do you accept?

Your deposit can be sent via Venmo to @RachelKnabe. Cash at the time of your appointment is preferred.

What should I do to prepare for my appointment?

Arrive to your appointment on time, fully rested, and have eaten a good meal 1-2 hours prior. Avoid alcohol and excessive amounts of caffeine for 24-48 hours before your appointment. Wear comfy loose clothing and dress in layers, the shop gets chilly in the winter! We have snacks and drinks but feel free to bring whatever you need. Make sure you bring a valid photo ID for paperwork. I prefer a no guest policy but if you do bring a guest they will be asked to sit in our waiting area while you get tattooed.

Do you do coverups?

Yes! All coverups require an in-person consultation prior to booking. When filling out the booking form please specify that it is a coverup and we can find a time to meet so I can see your tattoo in person and take a tracing and photos. Coverups projects are only taken on if I feel confident that I can achieve your goals with my style. In some cases, I will refer you to get some sessions of laser tattoo removal, or I will refer you to a different artist. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you are looking to get a coverup!

Aftercare instructions

  • Leave your tattoo wrapped for about 2-3 hours.

  • With clean hands, remove the wrap and use a mild soap to wash your tattoo under warm water.

  • Pat dry with a paper towel and let it “air out” for about an hour. This will allow your pores to close and will reduce redness and swelling.

  • Apply a very small amount of ointment (Aquaphor, A&D) to the tattoo.

  • For the first 3-4 days, wash your tattoo twice a day and apply a thin layer of ointment as needed, about 3 times a day (don’t overdo it!!)

  • Once your tattoo starts to heal the top layer of skin, it will start to peel like a sunburn and will be slightly itchy. At this point, switch to a mild lotion (Eucerin, Lubriderm, Aveeno) and apply as needed, about 3 times a day. Continue to wash twice a day. Do this for the remainder of the healing process.

  • If you end up with any scabbing, leave the scabs alone and let them fall off naturally. If you pick or scratch them off, they can pull out some ink with it, leaving gaps in your tattoo.

  • It can take 2-4 weeks for your tattoo to heal. During this time avoid direct sun exposure and submerged water. Wear clothing that is loose and doesn’t rub up against your tattoo. Inadequate aftercare can result in needing a touch up. If you think you need a touch up, shoot me an email with a photo of your tattoo. Your tattoo needs to be healed at least a month before I can touch it up.

  • Send healed photos or tag me on Instagram @rachelktattoo :)
